Early morning flight to Leh. It's one of the most spectacular flights in the world, with aerial views of the Great Himalayas and the Karakoram mountain ranges, including snow-capped peaks and deep valleys.

Upon arrival in Leh, you'll immediately notice the altitude. The day is designed to be completely relaxed for acclimatization. Only short walks and plenty of hydration are recommended. An optional afternoon visit to the Leh market is available.

Day 3: Leh → Hemis Monastery → Leh

  • Driving time: 4–5 hours
  • Difficulty: Easy

Your first day of driving is designed as a gentle acclimatization route. After breakfast, you'll travel along the banks of the Indus River to Hemis Monastery, the largest and most important monastery in Ladakh. The smooth roads, light traffic, and gradual increase in altitude will help you adjust to driving conditions in the Himalayas.

I return to Leh in the afternoon to rest and receive the briefing for the next few days in the high mountains.

Day 4: Leh → Khardung La → Nubra Valley

  • Driving time: 6–7 hours
  • Difficulty: Moderate

A classic day of driving in Ladakh. Ascent to Khardung La, one of the highest passable mountain passes in the world. The weather and road conditions can change rapidly, offering an authentic high-mountain experience.

Night in Nubra.

Day 5: Nubra Valley → Shyok River Trail → Pangong Lake

  • Driving time: 6 hours

One of the most adventurous days of the expedition. The Shyok route follows a remote valley with varied terrain, river crossings (depending on the season), off-road tracks, and idyllic scenery. This day demands concentration and confidence, and offers the purest beauty of the Himalayas.

Arrival at the impressive Pangong Tso, famous for its changing shades of blue.

Night in lakeside campsites.

Day 6: Pangong Lake → Chushul → Tsaga La → Hanle

  • Driving time: 5-6 hours
  • Difficulty: Medium

A tour through the restricted Chushul sector, a remote and sensitive border region requiring special permits. Crossing the Tsaga La pass, surrounded by vast plateaus and grazing lands of the Changpa nomads.

The landscape becomes increasingly arid and spectacular as you approach Hanle, home to one of the world's highest astronomical observatories.

Day 7: Hanle → Umling La → Hanle

  • Driving time: 6–7 hours
