MTB route in Iceland

DAY 1 – Arrival in Reykjavik

Arrival at Keflavík International Airport, where our guide will be waiting for you. Transfer by vehicle to your hotel in Reykjavík under the constant light of the midnight sun, which will accompany us throughout the trip.

Those who wish can enjoy a pleasant stroll along the bay near the hotel or venture into the liveliest streets of this small and vibrant city.

DAY 2 – Golden Circle and Flúðir by bike

In the morning, we'll load the bikes into our van and head towards the Golden Circle, one of the country's great classics. During the ride, the guide will explain the origin and historical and geological significance of this region.


We then started our bike ride to Flúðir, an agricultural town located in one of the most fertile areas of the country, known for its geothermal activity and greenhouses.

Thingvellir

A UNESCO World Heritage national park and the meeting place of the old Icelandic parliament, located on the Mid-Atlantic Ridge.

Geysir geothermal area

An emblematic area where the Earth's energy manifests itself in steaming pools and in the frequent eruptions of the Strokkur geyser, which shoots boiling water to a great height.

Gullfoss Waterfall

An impressive two-tiered waterfall where the Hvítá River plunges into a deep canyon, offering a spectacle of power, mist, and sometimes rainbows suspended over the void.

Visits

Optional: Bathing in Secret Lagoon, Iceland's oldest geothermal pool, fed by naturally hot waters in a traditional setting.

DAY 3 – Þjórsárdalur, Gjáin and Háifoss

  • Departure by vehicle towards the Þjórsárdalur valley, one of the most important historical areas in the Icelandic interior.
  • Visit to Stöng, a reconstructed Viking farm that was abandoned after a volcanic eruption of the imposing Hekla supervolcano, whose silhouette will accompany us today.
  • From Stöng we will take a hike to the volcanic oasis of Gjáin, a unique place with waterfalls, lava flows and lush vegetation.
  • Return to Stöng and start of the bike route to the Háifoss waterfall, one of the tallest and most spectacular in Iceland, with a drop of more than 120 meters.
  • After the visit, return to Flúðir by vehicle.

DAY 4 - Landmannalaugar

Our vehicle will take us to the start of what is probably one of the most beautiful scenic roads in the world.


A cycling route through volcanic landscapes, rivers and multicolored mountains to reach Landmannalaugar, the heart of the Highlands.


This route requires fording a river. Depending on conditions and water levels, our guide may modify it to another route to the same location, following a path further north.


Upon arrival we will enjoy a bath in the thermal waters

Natural landscapes. Those who wish can take one of the marked hikes in the surrounding area, among rhyolite mountains, lava fields, and fumaroles. Return to Flúðir by vehicle.

DAY 5 – South Coast by Bike

We'll depart by vehicle from Flúðir towards the village of Hvolsvöllur. From there, we'll begin a bike ride to Gluggafoss waterfall. After the visit, we'll continue from Múlagljót, a popular meeting point for local aviators, following the Krossá River.


Conditions permitting, we will cross the river via one of its old bridges and continue to Seljalandsfoss. At Seljalandsfoss, we will load the bicycles into the vehicle, as National Road 1 has heavy traffic and is not suitable for cycling.


Continue by vehicle along the south coast with visits to:

  • Skogafoss
  • Sólheimajökull Glacier
  • Reynisfjara black sand beach and Vík village

Approximate distance by vehicle: 155 km.

DAY 6 – Reykjanes and return to Reykjavik

  • Departure by vehicle towards the Reykjanes Peninsula, site of the recent volcanic activity that has struck the country.
  • From the Seltún geothermal area we will start a bike route skirting Lake Kleifarvatn and crossing lava fields until we reach Reykjavik.

DAY 7 – Return to Spain

Transfer from the hotel to the international airport to take the return flight.
